Sizzle Boppin Days--Introduction to Our House

We are getting back into the swing of things with our second term of school. The kids are very lively. The snow and ice keeping them in hasn't helped. They do much better when we have trampoline time (aka, P.E. class). Classical education is a wonderful thing. It's amazing the twaddle they read in public schools nowadays. What in the world has happened to education?!?! No wonder America is falling further and further behind.

Even learning challenged students can have a classical education, albeit a modified one. My oldest has been diagnosed with development visual issues. In school, she would be labeled L.D. and stuck in a class with children who are "slow". She is very intelligent--she just learns differently. And, thus, we have chose to customize her education by homeschooling. She sees a therapist for her learning difficulties and has already made vast strides in overcoming her difficulties. At school, she would already be discouraged, but at home, she is given a chance to overcome her challenges without being demoralized in the process. It is wonderful to think about the possibilities in each of my children.

My second child is so different (of course he is a boy and that is REAL different), but he is special. He has been trying to teach himself how to read. I was determined to hold him off, but have finally broken down and decided to teach him because he won't leave me alone. The vision therapy doctor might not promote this step (since they recommend delaying formal reading education), but I'm going to follow my gut on this one.

My last child is just a little hell raiser. A boy, you might ask? Unfortunately, no. She is an adorable and deceptively innocent little girl. Maybe it's the older brother's influence? Or maybe she just has to hold her own as the baby of the family, but she could beat up both of my other children. . . if only she were a little bigger. Fortunately, she is very tiny for her age so that keeps her in check.

A few years ago, I worked in financial services, but now I am content to be at home. My husband of fourteen years is very supportive and is very committed to our kids. He has worked two jobs at times and sacrificed so much for me to be at home with the children.

I am very blessed.
